Education

  • M.S., Organic Chemistry (T. Kosciuszko Technical University Krakow,, 1983)
  • Ph.D., Medicinal Chemistry (Nicolaus Copernicus Academy of Medicine, , 1989)

Research Interests

  • Pain; Depression; Drugs of Abuse.
  • Development and elucidation of SAR (Structure-Activity Relationships) and SAFiR (Structure-Affinity Relationships) of structurally and mechanistically novel analgesics/analgesic adjuvants and antidepressants employing classical and contemporary medicinal chemistry.
  • Synthesis, molecular modeling, binding affinity, functional activity (i.e., agonist, partial agonist, allosteric modulator, inverse agonist, antagonist) at the sub-molecular (e.g. biochemical assays) and molecular (e.g. behavioral assays) levels are utilized as tools.
  • QSAR (Quantitative Structure-Activity/Affinity Relationships) of ligands that interact with LGICRs (Ligand-Gated Ion Channel Receptors), in particular 5-HT3 receptors, and GPCRs (G-Protein Coupled Receptors), particularly alpha2-adrenoceptors, using 3-D receptor models are of special interest.
